If you find yourself at a point of transition as you shift from the “them” time to deciding to step into the “me” time then I can help.
As we enter perimenopause and menopause we are faced with many challenges but also with opportunities. Aging affords us certain privileges and one of those is the privilege of making choices and decisions that are specifically for you. For many of us, we have spent years focusing on the needs of others (including our partners and our children).
It seems in our 40’s our lives begin to transition until one day we realize our life has changed physically and emotionally, and our relationships - which leaves so much of us feeling stuck. While physical changes accelerate and continue for decades, most of us are found feeling like we are losing control and even lost in our relationships and our purpose.
We do not have to suffer and just go with the flow. There are so many options that are available to us to make these decades the best in our lives. While the options and work seem intimidating, my passion over the past decade is to help women navigate this transition.
I want to be there for you.
I have been a licensed therapist since 1994. I’ve been married for 35 years and raised 2 wonderful young women who are now in their 20’s. Currently living in Austin, I’ve raised my children in Florida, Virginia, and New Jersey.
For 35 years, I have worked with diverse issues including marriage and family, adolescents, eating disorders, and women in transition.
Most recently, as a psychotherapist working in a non-profit agency that supported underserved populations I saw common themes with women my age. It turns out that almost all of us were struggling but not all of us were sharing the struggles. I found that the women who shared their struggles and looked for support felt better about their journey and began to make changes that affected all areas of their life.
Born in Brooklyn, by the time I was 13 years old I had lived in 13 homes and learned early on that by building deep meaningful, non-judgmental connections, I could help people. These skills and passion led me to a career as a psychotherapist.
Turning 50 was a pivotal time for me. I was uncomfortable with my body, struggling with perimenopause symptoms that were confusing and frustrating and about to send my baby off to college. I woke up and began to question this new stage and who I was.
In my practice I’ve seen many many women struggle with the transition of their roles as they age. It becomes almost paralyzing. The connection between the emotional shifts and perimenopause has become clear and therefore I believe the path to becoming “unstuck” is a multidisciplinary approach that focuses on both physical and mental health.
I believe we have the power to take control, but that we often give up the power and don’t clearly see options in front of us. I have made it my mission in life to help women see their options and to create plans and take steps towards a healthier more fulfilling life.
